Many visitors
to Costa Rica prefer to use escort services,
preferring discreet encounters to the hustle
of the social scene of noisy and crowded bars and clubs.
Lately, escort services and those who operate
them in Costa Rica have come under a lot of pressure by the authorities for promoting sex tourism. Prostitution
is legal, however, pimping is not and the Costa Rican authorities regard escort services as
tantamount to pimping. Some have temporarily suspended their services, while others have
disappeared all
together.
Still, using an
escort service is not risky or dangerous.
The customer is never in any compromising situation, as the
authorities are not out on a witch hunt, nor want to place a visitor in any awkward situation, knowing
quite well that prosecution would be next to impossible and what purpose would it serve.
Some things to keep in mind about
escorts and escort services:
1. Be wary of those services offering 24 hour
service, promising that they can deliver at any time of the day and without advance notice. Yes, they can, but
she may not be exactly what you had in mind and will probably end up costing you even if you refuse the
service.
2. Plan your vacation. Get a contact from the service and make a firm reservation.
3. Most of the escorts do not speak English. If you need someone that speaks English
make it clear at the beginning.
