Costa Rica contains more than
one type of natural and exotic
beauty. Dramatic volcanic
mountains, pristine rainforest
canopies, and hot sandy beaches
are only one side of the exotic
wilds that Costa Rica has to
offer. In Costa Rica, sex
is the other tourist attraction
that brings in a collective
millions of visitors a year.
Prostitution in Costa Rica is
not illegal or legal, thus
prostitution is openly accepted,
while pimping or “proxenetismo”
or "pimping" is strictly
prohibited.
Sexual attitudes are liberal,
and sex is seen as a natural
part of life. Sexual crime rates
are very low compared to the
rest of Latin America, and for
the most part in Costa Rica, sex
crimes are committed inside the
Costa Rican nuclear family unit.
Informal studies show that most
Costa Rican women at one time or
another have engaged in
prostitution, and thus
“arrangements” of a sexual
nature, that’s to say agreements
between consenting adults, is
not at all uncommon. Because of
the open nature and legal
availability of sex, and because
of the freedom between adults to
formulate arrangements, nearly
any woman of moderate attraction
will receive polite offers
regularly to formulate such
arrangements. A polite offer met
with a polite decline is often
received with polite acceptance.
Any visitor to the country will
see billboards announcing, in
English, that in Costa Rica, sex
with minors is strictly
prohibited, enforced, and
violators will be pursued and
prosecuted. This may seem
offensive to tourists who did
not come for Costa Rica sex, and
some may wonder how to discern a
Costa Rica girl from a Costa
Rican of legal age. But Costa
Rica is a country of very
straightforward and relatively
fair laws. Costa Ricans are
required to carry legal and
validated identification showing
that they are of legal age.
Between the natural beauty, the
atmosphere of sexual freedom,
and the availability of lovely
and exotic sex workers at any
corner of the country, it’s no
wonder that Costa Rica has
become the destination of not
only the hardiest adventure
travelers, but also a booming
hot spot for vacation homes of
the rich and famous.
Costa Rica has the facilities
and infrastructure available to
dock fleets of yachts as well as
cruise ships, not to mention
some of the world’s best and
most legendary surfing and
sports fishing.
Aside from the coastal
attractions, Costa Rica
possesses vast tracts of
protected primary rainforest,
cloud forest, active volcanoes,
as well as the sprawling San
Juan River lying at the border
of Costa Rica and Nicaragua,
where giant fresh water tarpon
are regularly caught for world
records.
Despite the striking natural
beauty of Costa Rica’s landscape
and geography, it is the
combination of such with the
legal and accepting attitudes
towards sex and prostitution,
not to mention legalized
gambling, that makes Costa Rica
the desirable tourist
destination that it has become.
Officially, the Costa Rican
government and public attitudes
decry the connection between
legalized prostitution and
gambling, and the successful
tourism industry. Unofficially
however, it is widely accepted
that without the legalized
industry of Costa Rica sex and
vice that the country would have
little to offer to neither the
adventure traveler nor the
return business of middle class
tourists and business
conventions that grace the
dramatic and beautiful country
every year. |
