Legality of Prostitution in
Costa Rica
Again, prostitution in Costa
Rica is not illegal or legal -
though pimping and the
prostitution of minors under 18
is illegal and sanctioned
severely, especially in cases
were foreigners come to Costa
Rica for sex with minors.
In
addition, some countries, like
the United States, sanction
their citizens for committing
such crimes abroad. In some
cases, the US has prosecuted
men with only the intention of
coming to Costa Rica to have sex
with minors.
Sex with a minor can land you in
a lot of trouble and change your
life and not in a very positive
way. Always ask the girl her age
and proof by showing you her
"cedula" - a document issued to
every Costa Rican over the age
of 18 with their picture and
birth date or their passport, if
dealing with a foreigner.
Documents can be falsified, so
if in doubt, don't.
